CityCenter expects to fill some of the positions with employees transferring from within the parent company (MGM Mirage). Of course, not all of the 12,000 positions can be transfers so this will create many new job opportunities. There will also be positions available when existing employees transfer out of their current MGM jobs.

The first phase of CityCenter is scheduled to open this December.

I have heard people around town talking about Mandalay Bay potentially being up for sale as well. This is an attractive property and would fetch a hefty price tag should MGM decide to sell it.

Treasure Island was sold to Phil Ruffin who was the former owner of the New Frontier. He purchased the property from MGM Mirage for $775 million with $600 million paid upfront in cash.
From the comments in the LVRJ article, employees, residents and industry-folk all see this as a good thing for Treasure Island.

After all, it was “built by locals, for locals.” And the marketing was awesome: it made me want to go.

There were ads all over the place, they flew a blimp over the city and residents received all kinds of promotional materials in the mail (an invitation to join their rewards club, coupons for the restaurants and gaming vouchers). I am particularly excited about 32 Draft which will have a selection of 96 different beers.

They are trying really hard to make Aliante Station seem like “the place to be”. Problem is the commercials airing on local television are cheesy and the people shown are not that attractive nor does the casino look that nice.

We locals have lots of choices as far as gaming goes. Opportunities abound (you can even play video poker at the supermarket — sadly, it seems many people do). The Strip is right in the middle of the city, local casinos are strategically located around town and there are always the taverns, burger places and pizza joints that all offer counter-top gaming alongside your meal.

So who wants to drive all the way to the far northern end of the city to visit Aliante Station?

The Silverton Casino is conveniently located a few miles up the street from where I live. It is my favorite place to take visitors who are itching to gamble when I don’t want to schlep them all the way down to the Strip. Let’s just say I’ve been there a few times.

So here are my impressions of the place: it looks like a hunting lodge but is built in a Disneylandeque kind of way; the ceilings are really low which makes it extra smokey; the dealers are indifferent and sometimes sullen; there’s a big aquarium by the front with manta rays in it; and a Bass Pro Shops is attached but I have never been inside (people who know me should not be surprised).

Now the Silverton has spent a bunch of money to increase the size of the gaming floor, added a steak house, a wine bar and a parking structure. “Luxury & Rustic All in one Place”. Woo-hoo.
